‘Caught in the Headlights’ Auditions Wednesday 1st February at Derby Theatre

We’re looking for male and female characters aged between 18-25 and a male character with medium to large build aged between 35-60 for roles in our upcoming short film ‘Caught in the Headlights’. Auditions are set to take place at the Derby Theatre in the Westfield Centre between 1-4pm on Wednesday 1st February in the rehearsal room. It’s a drop in event with no set schedule so please come along and you’ll be allocated a time and given a copy of the script to read through if you turn up on the day. Please get in touch for more info. This is an exciting project with large scope so we’d love to see you at the auditions. There may be drinks and snacks too!

The roles we’re looking to cast are:

Keith

The central, lead character, Keith is a taxi driver dealing with a midlife crisis, he’s insecure, all alone and feels worthless, through the events of one night he decides to take a hold of his life once more, get back his masculinity, power, confidence and put his life back on the right track.

Mikey

The low life which catalyses the events of the film, another hint for Keith to sort his life out, Mikey doesn’t listen to Keith or see him as any threat in the slightest. Mikey is a degenerate who makes Keith’s life hell, he may be shy but he’s just as scheming and rotten. Mikey’s actions finally kick Keith’s life into gear and force him to make change.

Chris

The so called leader of the gang, Chris is the personification of all that’s bad in Keith’s life, he is a brick wall, the name calling and abuse that Keith can’t seem to get passed. Chris embodies the estate and the ruthlessness, stupidity and ego of youth. Chris doesn’t see Keith as a threat and doesn’t fear him, he doesn’t really care for much and shows off to his friends, he is the main reason they steal the car and continue Keith’s bad night.

Clarissa

The brains of the gang, Clarissa may be street wise and quite savvy but she too goes along with thieving and abuse. She comes to her senses at the climax and persuades Chris to leave Keith alone. Clarissa is the common sense of the gang, the realism, the sanity, she keeps things in order and partly helps Keith get on with his life, by coaxing Chris away. She’s a kind of contradiction in that sense, but a key member of the gang who sees the problems of her friends but is too young and immature to do anything meaningful except deflate the bad situation.

Damo

The comic relief of the gang, Damo is the innocence and the naivety. He looks up to Chris and follows his actions, way of life, but he too doesn’t really care for it. His childish actions prove his immaturity but also the reasons behind what he does, he is a misguided teen who finds a role model in the worse person possible. He acts as the empathy in the group, giving them more humanity and down to earth qualities, yet he can be as bad as Chris and Clarissa, he just has no way of avoiding this way of life.
